A new bullet journal

I have started a new bullet journal from this week.

That might not seem like a big deal, but when my haematologist told me in November last year that without any new drugs funded by Pharmac and made available through the public health system, I might have only a few weeks — 2–3 months at the most — left to live I looked at the journal I was using and thought, “I’m never going to finish that!” (I hate wasting things but I promise it wasn’t the first thought I had!)

However, Pharmac did manage to fund a new drug that I am eligible for — pomalidomide — and I am on that full-time now. It’s still a test to see if it is really working, but only time can tell us that. This hasn’t been helped by being in the hospital a couple of weekends ago for five days. That has put us back to square one for the second round of pomalidomide.

In fact, it was only a few weeks ago, when it looked like things were going OK, I thought I could justify buying a new journal notebook. That might seem a small thing to worry about, but they are expensive and not to be bought lightly. Particularly when there isn’t much work around and money is tight (as it is for many people who rely on the public service for their income.)

Who would have thought I could get so excited over a notebook?
